Escudero, Pangilinan take lead in mock elections
Young lawmakers Francis Joseph “Chiz” Escudero and Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan continued to get the highest marks for election as Senator in the second installment of a poll-awareness campaign conducted by the Student Leaders’ Forum (SLF) held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Sta. Mesa campus last 12 – 13 March 2007.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) should disqualify at least 11 party-list groups alleged to be “fronts” of the administration, a left-leaning lawmaker said Wednesday.
“If they find enough reason to disqualify them [party-lists], Comelec should do so,” House Deputy Minority Floor Leader Loretta Ann Rosales said following a meeting with election commissioner Resurreccion Borra. (More on Inquirer)

LAOAG CITY — Tarlac Representative Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III admitted on Wednesday that he kept his distance from the Genuine Opposition’s rally and sorties in the province of Ilocos Norte, reputed to be the last stronghold of the family of his father’s top tormentor, ousted President Ferdinand Marcos.
Aquino said he had to turn down a request from the Genuine Opposition’s avowed leader and yet another deposed leader, ex-president Joseph Estrada, for him to attend the Laoag leg of GO’s election campaign in northern Luzon. (More on Inquirer)

MANILA, Philippines — Reelectionist Abra Governor Vicente Valera has been allowed two police bodyguards because of supposed threats to his life, an official told INQUIRER.net on Wednesday.
Chief Superintendent Romeo Hilomen, Police Security and Protection Office (PSPO) director, said Valera submitted the request to his office last month and it was approved by Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Oscar Calderon and the Commission on Elections. More on Inquirer.
