Senatorial candidates of Lakas-Muslim Christian Democrats (Lakas-CMD) Team Unity took early leads last night in the counting of votes cast by military, police and civilian personnel under the system of Local Absentee Voting that allowed them to vote in advance as they were assigned for poll duties in places far from where they are registered. The confusion over accreditation has made it difficult for the poll watchers of the LP-Drilon Wing to obtain election returns, according to a GMA News TV report.

Two poll watchers of the LP-Drilon Wing in Dasmarinas remain in prison. They were turned away by election officials and arrested by policemen when they insisted they are the officially accredited Liberal Party representatives.

As of this time, no anomalies have been reported in the Imus canvassing center but less than 20 percent of the votes have been canvassed, according to the GMA News report.

Sarmiento said the teachers in these towns were similarly harassed by warring candidates and thus have failed to constitute themselves into boards of election inspectors.

On Monday, the Comelec declared a failure of elections in the Lanao del Sur town of Bayabao, Masiu, Lumbatan, Kaai, Bayang, Butig, Binidayan, Tubaran, Lumbayanagi, Sultan Sumalundong, Madalum, Pualas and Kapatagan, citing the refusal of poll officers to serve because of “threats” and “risks.”
