Comelec proclaims Mendoza Bulacan governor-elect

Bulacan governor-elect Jon-Jon Mendoza told radio station dzRB that a political neophyte like him neither had the capability nor the machinery to commit electoral fraud as accused of him by his opponent, Roberto Pagdanganan.

Pagdanganan lost to Mendoza by 19,998 votes and sought to stop the proclamation of the governor-elect, accusing him of electoral fraud. The Commission on Elections, however, has proclaimed Mendoza the new Bulacan governor this evening.

MANILA, Philippines — It is still an 8-2-2 lead in favor of candidates from the Genuine Opposition in the latest tally of the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel). As of 10:57 p.m. May 23, GO candidates Loren Legarda (11,542,261 votes), Francis Escudero (11,302,892 votes), Panfilo Lacson (9,934,593 votes) and Manuel Villar (9,551,576 votes) are in the top four in Namfrel’s quick count.
